TOEFL SCORES ARRIVED!

OK guys, so today I got your TOEFL scores. According to that, I was able to get your final score, which is as follows:

10: Cristian, Chema.
9: Hari, Eduardo, Viri, Jorge.
8: Marco Polo, Anabel.
7: Veronica, Daniel, Itzel, Ricardo, Mario, Alejandro.
5: Marcos.

I'm happy to know that most of you passed the course. In Marcos case, I really cannot help him since he got a very low score in the TOEFL.

Most of you did well in the TOEFL, with some exceptions. If you want to know what exactly did you get in the TOEFL, please go to the Coordinacion de Idiomas for it and also to sign your final score. Congratulations!

English 5!

Hi guys, Here I am. I told you I would give you your scores, but I'm sorry to tell you that I still have some missing information. Daniel and Ricardo, I couldn't check your projects since my PC didn't recognize your mini dvd's... can you see me in the school tomorrow (I'm going to be there from 9 to 10 moreless). Marcos, you are missing your interview, so please come on Monday too.

For everyone else, please check the blog again on Tuesday. The TOEFL scores are expected to arrive the Tuesday's evening but maybe we will not have them until the Wednesday, so please check here before you go to the Coordinacion de Idiomas.

Have a nice week!

For today's homework, I will ask you to read this short story; after you finished reading, follow the instrutions at the bottom:

"A 79-year-old man was slightly injured on Saturday while waiting in his brand new convertible in a drive-through lane at Burger Prince restaurant. Herman Sherman of Northville suffered a mild burn about 9:00 p.m. when a young female employee accidentally spilled a cup of coffee into his lap. Sherman said the coffee was hot but not scalding.
He refused medical aid, saying the only problem was the stain on his slacks, but it would wash out. He was given a fresh refill. Before Sherman drove off, the restaurant manager, John Johnson, gave him two free gift certificates--one for an extra-large coffee and one for the restaurant's newest sandwich, the McRap.
The employee, who was a new hire, was let go later that evening. She was quite upset. She said she would probably sue Burger Prince for letting her go. She said it was the man's fault for ordering something that she might be able to spill."

Make a short list of all the words you don't know and then , in a dictionary, check at least 2 of them, write down the definitions, and post them in comment form (if you don't have a dictionary at hand, try this site). If you open the comments you will see an example. Please check the posts before you go to the dictionary, because maybe someone already wrote that word's definition.

Lucky you! Exam next week!

Sarcasm aside, it has been a great beginning guys! We have succesfully finished with the 2 units we had to do for this first part of the semester. As I told you at the beginning of the course, next week we will have the first Partial Exam. Don't worry, we will be reviewing the topics the next few days, but if you cannot come, or want to reinforce your English, remember that your book comes with a Multimedia CD, so please check it in your PC or, if you don't have one, you can always go to either the school's library or the computer room.
If you still have doubts, you can visit the book's official site:

http://wps.pearsonlongman.com/topnotch2/40/10350/2649809.cw/-/t/index.html

This link includes exercises to reinforce each unit. Rememeber, the units are 1 n' 2. If you still have doubts, mark the topic (or page in the textbook) you want to focus on in the review and leave a comment with it.
You can also ask in the Coordinacion de Idiomas for personal attentions with one of the teachers, in case you are feed up o r bored with me.

What's in the name?

Hello guys! For your second homework, I will ask you to do 2 things.
1st: Check the link below, search for the meaning of your name, and either copy down or print it. Next day we are going to compare some of your findings.

http://www.behindthename.com/

2nd: As preparation for your 1st class project, lets do some net research: search the web for a famous person that has the same name as you and write a short bibliography in paragraph form that contains at least the following information:
Full Name, Date of Birth/Death, Place of Birth, Famous For... plus any other info you like to include.

Short Example: Doing a quick Google search, as my famous person I found Vlad Tepes for Vladimir. Then, I wrotea short biography in paragraph form:

Vlad Tepes (1431-1476) was born in Sighisoara, Transylvania (now part of Rumania). He was the Prince of Wallachia and a military leader. He was infamous for the extreme cruelty of his torture methods.
Centuries later, his deeds would inspire Bram Stoker to create the character Count Dracula for the novel of the same name.

I expect you to write at least two times as much as in the example. Please, don't just copy and paste the information since I will ask some questions about your homework. If you have any questions or doubts regarding the homework, you can either leave me a comment or send me an e-mail.

Welcome!
